case study : The O2 British Music Experience
case studies > The O2 British Music Experience
Belcom247 terminated and tested around 1000 fibre optic cables on behalf of Sysco AV for the British Music Experience over the 2008/2009 festive season.
Using state-of- the art effects and iconic memorabilia the O2 Music Experience shows how rock, pop, dance and other genres were formed and have influenced the last sixty years of British culture.
From the classic era defining sounds of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Dusty Springfield to stadium filling giants like The Who and Queen... to the irresistible anarchy of bands like The Specials and the Sex Pistols... right up to recent crowd-pleasers such as Coldplay, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and more.
The Challenge
The O2 British Music Experience contracted SyscoAV to create fibre optic connections to all displays within their exhibition area. Due to tight scheduling at the O2 arena, we were contacted over the New Year period to test and terminate all the fibre optic cabling that had been previously installed before the exhibit went live to the public. This entailed vetting the fidelity of around 1000 separate cables in the space of around two weeks, including the replacement of any faulty cables which were discovered during testing.
What We Did
We were required to test and terminate all cables in a short space of time, often working at great heights and to operate without interfering with other contractors who were working to complete the exhibition area on time. Due to our excellent relationship with our manufacturers, when it was necessary to replace faulty cables we were able to obtain replacement materials from Europe at extremely short notice, even over the holiday period.
The Business Result
The terminating and testing of all cable was completed on time and without interrupting the tight schedule for the launch of the exhibition, which opened to great success in March 2009.
